The McArthur family envisioned a blissful and comfortable haven when planning their new home in Onrus in late 2023: a space that would reflect the wild natural beauty of the rocky coastline in their interior design choices.
Although completely project-managed from start to finish by the McArthurs, the double-storey home was designed by independent designer, civil engineer and building detailer Joel Coller, and Hermanus Building Contractors were in charge of construction. Italtile Somerset West was thrilled to be involved from the ground up, with consultant Cindy Field as lead advisor, with oversight of the selection of all products used in the Spec. This involved the curation of finishes for all interior and exterior spaces, with attention to bathroomware, kitchen sinks, and all tiles, mosaics and cladding.
To amplify the sense of private sanctuary, all bathrooms were transformed into cocoons of sophisticated comfort, featuring the classic, delicately veined marbling of Statuario Valgi, a large format glazed porcelain tile. One of the baths selected is Italtile’s exclusive Athena, a jetted spa-style bath, which is a perfect example of eco-luxe style. Laufen Pro sanware was selected for its high design, durability and water-saving qualities. Cindy finessed each bathroom with another Italtile exclusive – the energy-efficient Jeeves Sienna heated towel rail. Dominus Finesse bathroom accessories added the perfect finishing touch with their unique Bauhaus-style tubular steel aesthetic.
There’s a wonderfully tactile quality to Cindy’s choice of mixed stone tones throughout House McArthur: Natural Stone Cladding is a textural connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, used to edge planting beds as well as create accent walls inside. InOut Kronos Grey, a locally manufactured slip-resistant EcoTec tile, brings its sleek, subtly flecked velvety finish to the serene outdoor entertainment and pool areas.
The fresh, airy chef-style kitchen was finessed with high-end Franke sinks.
House McArthur was completed and ready for the family to move in during March 2024 and is a beautiful example of contemporary South African indoor-outdoor living. Not only is the sleek, elevated aesthetic designed to outlast the trends with timeless sustainable style, but all Italtile finishes used are designed with longevity in mind, to hold their value as investment pieces and increase the McArthur family’s ROI when the time comes to sell.
Being involved from the ground up, as the home took shape, was a great privilege for Italtile Somerset West.
